The Best Dutch Oven (Ever!): Le Creuset 5.5-Quart Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven
$420 Le Creuset’s 5.5-quart Dutch oven is a longtime editor favorite that consistently aces our tests for braising, ease-of-handling, and durability. It gives meat a beautifully burnished crust; has wide, looped handles that make it easy to maneuver in and out of the oven; and has chip-resistant enamel. Crafted from cast iron, this Dutch oven heats quickly and evenly and can tackle a multitude of meal-prep tasks, including making hearty stews, roasting chicken, and baking sourdough. Best of all, it’s built to last a lifetime. The classic flame color is over $120 off ahead of October Prime Day.

The Best Stand Mixer: KitchenAid 7-Quart Bowl Lift Stand Mixer
$650 This KitchenAid stand mixer was built for serious baking. It has 11 speeds, including a half-speed for folding and adding delicate ingredients, and comes with five stainless steel attachments: a double-flex edge beater, coated flat beater, coated dough hook, 11-wire ship, and pouring shield. We found it does a superior job of whipping heavy cream, mixing batter, and kneading stiff bread and pizza dough, and it was fairly quiet during operation. We especially like the pouring shield’s silicone bumpers, which keep it securely on the bowl. While the bowl’s base has a bump that can cause unmixed ingredients to accumulate around it, this 500-watt powerhouse is definitely worth scoring while on sale.

The Best Slicing Knife: Victorinox Fibrox Pro 12-Inch Slicing Knife with Granton Blade
$86 Thinner than a chef’s knife, a slicing knife is designed to cut long slices of meat and has shallow divots to keep it from sticking to the blade. Victorinox’s knife is long and narrow, providing plenty of surface area to slice meat, and has an even width from the blade to its rounded tip. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, this is one of the best knives you can buy on sale ahead of Amazon Prime Big Deal Days.

A Durable Non-Toxic Cookware: GreenPan Valencia Pro Ceramic Nonstick Pans, Set of 3
$160 This trio of GreenPan Valencia Pro frying pans is part of a larger 11-piece set that topped our best non-toxic cookware list for its performance and durability. The nonstick frying pans measure 8, 9.5, and 11 inches, and they’re free from PFOA, PFAS, lead, and cadmium. Each has a slick ceramic coating that did a fantastic job at frying eggs and searing pork chops to a golden finish and made releasing both foods a breeze. Versatile and sturdy, the pans are nearly 20% off and ideal for everyday use.

The Best Glass Food Storage Containers: Rubbermaid Brilliance Glass Food Storage Containers
$43 If you’re looking for non-toxic food storage, it doesn’t get any better than Rubbermaid’s glass containers. They have a seriously tight seal that didn’t leak when we shook them and laid them on their sides. They also didn’t retain any lingering odors or stains after use. Oven-safe up to 450°F (without their BPA-free plastic lids), the glass food storage containers can also go in the microwave with their lids vented. After we used them to zap frozen sweet peas, the containers were warm but not too hot to handle. Stock up on these glass food containers ahead of October Amazon Prime Day.

The Best Inexpensive Coffee Maker with a Removable Reservoir: Ninja CE251 12-Cup Coffee Brewer
$90 This user-friendly Ninja coffee maker boasts an auto-brewing option, an iced coffee setting, a temperature-adjustable warming plate, and a clean cycle. But what makes it really stand out is its removable 60-ounce water reservoir, which can be transported to the sink for splash-free filling. The 12-cup machine reaches a temperature of 195˚F—the minimum for a good brew—and we found it produces a flavorful, balanced cup of coffee with only a hint of bitterness. The programmable machine, which keeps coffee hot for up to four hours, is on sale for a reasonable $70.

The Best Small Stainless Steel Saucepan: Duxtop 1.6-Quart Tri-Ply Stainless Steel Saucepan
$41 Duxtop’s stainless steel saucepan is built like a saucier, with sloped, rounded sides instead of straight ones. That made it easy to stir and whisk when we prepared hot cocoa—and easy to clean with a sponge afterward. Its rolled rim made pouring dribble-free, and while the rounded handle felt a little bulbous, it remained cool even after boiling water and browning butter. This oven-safe saucepan is a mini multitasker you’ll reach for daily.

The Best Glass Casserole Dish: OXO Glass Baking Dish with Lid
$27 Casserole dishes are great for making everything from dinners to desserts—especially this time of year—and OXO’s glass baking dish is wonderful at both. Our macaroni and cheese baked up golden brown (although with some crispy bits), and leche flan turned out easily without breaking. The 9- x 13-inch pan has broad, flat handles for an easy grip and a plastic lid for storage and portability. While the baking dish was easy to clean, the baked-on bits needed a little bit of soaking to remove. Still, this OXO pan is a winner—and a bargain at $23.

The Best French Press Coffee Maker: Fellow Clara Insulated French Press
$100 The Fellow Aiden is one of our favorite coffee makers, so it’s no surprise that the Clara is the best French press we’ve tested. It has a solid build with double-walled insulation; makes tasty, low-sediment coffee that stays at 122°F for up to three hours; and is easy to clean, thanks to its nonstick interior coating. Unlike most French presses that require you to align an opening in the lid with the spout, the Clara’s lid lets you pour no matter how it’s positioned. Fellow’s French press is a bit on the pricey side, which is why you should grab it while it’s on sale.

The Best Hand Mixer: Breville The Handy Mix Scraper
$160 Breville’s The Handy Mix Scraper is the Cadillac of hand mixers. Yes, it’s expensive, but its performance is top-notch. We found that its 240-watt motor and rubber-coated beater and whisk attachments made easy work of creaming butter and sugar, and they also whipped heavy cream to stiff peaks. The remarkably quiet 9-speed mixer has an angled handle with a comfortable grip, an easy-to-read digital display with a built-in timer, and a light that shines into the bowl while you work. When you’re done, place the clean attachments and cord inside the included case, snap the mixer on top, and store it away. If you want to take this Cadillac for a spin, it’s $30 off ahead of Prime Big Deal Days.

The Best Budget Food Processor: Cuisinart Food Processor
$320 Cuisinart’s food processor was the easiest model we tested, with only two control buttons: on/stop and pulse. It also comes with an S-blade and two disks—one for slicing, the other for grating. This food processor doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but it doesn’t need them. It did an excellent job at slicing potatoes, shredding mozzarella, whipping up mayonnaise, and kneading pizza dough. This is the least expensive model we’ve tested, and it’s worth every penny.
Pulse! Pulverize! These Are the 7 Best Food Processors
The Best Keurig: Keurig K-Supreme Coffee Brewer
$190 We’ve been skeptical of Keurig machines in the past, but there’s no denying that the brand’s single-serve coffee makers are convenient and create fine coffee drinks. Our top Keurig machine, the compact K-Supreme, is a savior for tiny kitchens. It has a dual-position water tank that can be placed to the left or the back of the machine, so it can fit on narrow counters. The machine is easy to navigate, able to brew 6 to 12 ounces of coffee in a flash, and has a mode specifically for brewing coffee over ice.
Keurig Coffee Makers Aren't for Everyone, But These 2 Won Our Tests
The Best Nonstick Baking Pan: USA Pan 8-Inch Square Bake Pan
$26 Of all the nonstick baking pans we tested, USA Pan’s 8-inch square pan was the best. The aluminized steel pan has a nonstick silicone coating and wasn’t prone to hot spots. Our yellow cakes and blondies baked evenly, with the blondies turning a beautiful golden brown from edge to middle. The pan’s rolled edges made it easy to grip when transferring it to and from the oven. If you want fool-proof, bakery-quality results, you can’t go wrong with this pan.

The Best Budget-Friendly Wok: Joyce Chen Carbon Steel Wok
$40 This affordable wok requires pre-seasoning before use and results in a surface that’s incredibly nonstick. In fact, it’s the only wok we tested that produced unbroken, unstuck fried eggs. Though it’s a bit heavy at 3 pounds, we found it effortless to toss bok choy and garlic fried rice in the wok’s spacious bowl. This one heated heated the most quickly and evenly out of all the woks we tested.

A Really Great Popcorn Machine: Dash Hot Air Popcorn Machine
$25 Dash’s Hot Air Popcorn Popper is perfect for cozy movie nights or a quick snack. We found that it made very good popcorn with a low percentage of unpopped kernels. The popcorn machine’s lid has nice features like a measuring cup that doubles as a butter warmer, but we found it made our popcorn a bit soggy and chewy. We suggest heating butter on the stovetop or in the microwave instead.
We Tried 11 Popcorn Makers to Find the Best Ones with the Least Amount of Unpopped Kernels
The Best Budget Enameled Cast Iron Skillet: Crock-Pot Artisan 10-Inch Cast Iron Skillet
$45 Crock-Pot is known for its slow cookers, but don’t count out its cookware. This wallet-friendly cast iron skillet fried eggs evenly and gave steaks a nice sear, and its smooth enamel interior released both with no problem. Cornbread was evenly browned on the bottom, but it did stick a bit to the pan and needed more effort to clean. Unlike many cast iron pans, this one is lightweight and can easily be maneuvered with just one hand.

Best Dry Food Storage Containers: Rubbermaid Brilliance Pantry Food Storage Containers, 8-Piece Set
$50 Like Rubbermaid’s glass containers, these plastic food storage containers have an airtight seal that didn’t leak or budge when we shook rice and water in them. Food stayed fresh, but crackers did develop a slightly plasticky flavor after a week. The containers are dishwasher-safe, but handwashing is recommended to prevent hairline cracks. They also stack neatly for easy storage in even the narrowest cabinets and pantries. These Rubbermaid Brilliance containers are on the more expensive side, but you can save 40% off in advance of October Prime Day.

The Best Kitchen Scale: OXO Good Grips
$65 OXO’s kitchen scale has topped our best list for years because of its accuracy and display, which pulls out so it’s easy to read when larger bowls and pans are placed on top. The scale measures ounces, pounds:ounces, grams, and kilograms:grams. It has an impressive standby mode that dims after five minutes of idling but retains the last weight measurement for 15 minutes (most models do two or three minutes). The scale also has nice finishing touches like buttons that are sealed around the edges to prevent food buildup and a tray that comes off for cleaning. This is a kitchen essential you’ll use all the time, and it’s already 32% off ahead of fall Amazon Prime Day.

An Excellent Air Fryer with a Higher Temperature Range: Cosori Pro LE 5-Quart Air Fryer
$100 We’re big fans of air fryers because they’re versatile, time-saving, and easy to clean. Cosori’s Pro LE air fryer heats up to 450˚F (versus 400˚F for other models we tested), and produced crisp chicken wings and French fries in our tests. On top of the machine is a touchscreen control panel with nine settings that make meal-prep a no-brainer: air fryer, keep warm, preheat, chicken, fries, frozen, steak, seafood, veggies, and bacon. We appreciate its quiet fan and the pleasant-sounding “shake food” reminder.

The Best Mid-Price Instant-Read Thermometer: Lavatools Javelin Pro Duo Digital Instant Read Thermometer
$58 Unlike some instant-read thermometers that go up to 572°F, the Javelin Pro’s temperature maxes out at 482°F. Still, it’s a solid option, with accurate readings delivered in about five seconds, a large digital screen with easy-to-read contrasting digits, and a bright backlight. One of its most unique features is a “hold” button that lets you pause the temperature reading so you can bring the thermometer toward you for a closer look. Now that it’s on sale, the Javelin Pro is a must-have for holiday meal prep.
Our Favorite Instant-Read Thermometers Are Lightning-Fast and Incredibly Accurate
The Best Cordless Immersion Blender: KitchenAid Go Cordless Hand Blender
$140 When you don’t feel like dealing with your bulky blender for simple jobs, an immersion blender is the way to go. This one from KitchenAid is lightweight and cordless, so we were somewhat surprised by how well it performed. Though it took a little more time than the competition to accomplish tasks, the immersion blender still created a silky soup, creamy smoothie, and wonderfully emulsified mayonnaise. In addition to a pan guard and blending canister, KitchenAid’s cordless hand blender has a detachable shaft for easy cleaning.

The Best Budget Pasta Bowls: Y YHY Pasta Bowls
$50 A good pasta bowl should be shallow, roughly 8.5 inches in diameter, scratch-resistant, and easy to clean. This Y YHY set rivaled our favorite Le Creuset pasta bowls but costs a fraction of the price—especially now that they’re on sale. They’re sleek, lightweight, and exactly right for eating spaghetti. Though the bowls didn’t retain heat as well as some others we tested, they’re oven-safe, so you can pop them into a low-temp oven to keep them warm.

A Perfect Paring Knife: Shun Classic 3.5-Inch Paring Knife
$125 Any well-equipped kitchen should have a paring knife, which can peel oranges, mince shallots, hull strawberries, slice tomatoes, and so much more. One of our top recommendations is this top-quality Shun knife, also a favorite of professional chefs. Made from Damascus steel, it’s sharp from the blade’s bolster to the tip, and it has a D-shaped handle with a comfortable grip that makes it easy to maneuver for left- and right-handers. Yes, this paring knife is a splurge, but Shun offers a free lifetime sharpening service that will sharpen knives, repair chips, and remove rust so you’ll get years of use out of it. Amazon slashed the price on this useful tool by 28% ahead of the October Amazon Prime Day.

The Best Silicone Spatula: OXO Good Grips Everyday Silicone Spatula
$14 OXO’s humble silicone spatula is a meal-prep MVP and was amazing at every test we put it through, including scraping brownie batter into a pan, folding chocolate chips into cookie dough, and scooping the last drops of a smoothie from a blender. It has a tapered, angled head for easy stirring and a beveled edge for swift scraping. The OXO Good Grips Silicone Spatula is also heatproof up to 600ºF, so you don’t have to worry about it melting while resting in a hot skillet.

One of the Best Vacuum Sealers: Anova Culinary Precision Vacuum Sealer Pro
$160 One of the few vacuum sealer models that seal liquids, the Anova Pro passed every one of our tests with flying colors. Its double-seal technology helps food withstand long-term freezer storage and high temperatures, and it keeps bags locked when you sous vide. The machine can also seal up to 100 bags with no rest period. A superb solution for keeping groceries fresh, the Anova Pro is lightweight, easy to store, and nearly $60 off.

The Best Dish Towels: Zeppoli Classic Kitchen Towels
$30 Zeppoli’s classic kitchen towels are similar to the ones used in professional kitchens, so you’d be wise to keep a stash at home. They double as pot holders, leave dishes lint-free after drying, and can soak up 141% of their weight in water when cleaning spills. “I still reach for a Zeppoli towel every day,” says long-time fan and associate editorial director Riddley Gemperlein-Schirm. “While they’ve shrunk a bit after many, many washes, they’re no less absorbent.” Like most dishcloths, they do stain easily and should be replaced regularly, so stock up while the 15-pack is on sale for about $1.30 per towel.

A Very Cool Cold Brew Maker: OXO Compact Cold Brew Maker
$40 It comes with quite a few parts, but the OXO Compact Cold Brew Maker is ridiculously easy to operate. The plastic container and glass carafe are both marked with fill lines, so there’s no need for measuring cups or spoons. Just place the container on the included stand, add grounds, then put the perforated “rainmaker” lid on top. Use the carafe to add water to the container, then let the grounds steep for 12 to 24 hours. When it’s ready, place the container on top of the carafe, and the spring-loaded release will drain the intense, fruity concentrate. The petite beaker holds enough concentrate to make 7 cups of smooth cold brew and takes up very little fridge space.

The Best Electric Can Opener: Kitchen Mama Auto Electric Can Opener
$40 Kitchen Mama’s compact electric can opener is a useful tool for anyone who has limited hand strength or is looking for a faster, safer method to open cans. We used it on a variety of cans in different sizes, and it whizzed around them, quickly removing lids without leaving sharp edges. Unlike countertop electric can openers and clunky hand-turn models, this ergonomically designed beauty is a cinch to store.

An Outdoor Pizza Oven We Love: Gozney Roccbox Outdoor Pizza Oven
$500 You can’t make Neapolitan-style pizza from scratch without an outdoor pizza oven, which can reach temperatures as high as 1000°F and creates a signature spotted crust. The weatherproof Gozney Roccbox heats with gas, wood, or charcoal, and it maintains wood-fired oven temperatures throughout the cooking process so pies are always crisp. We found that the Roccbox is easy to use, reliable, and doesn’t require a lot of monitoring, so you can mingle with friends and family on pizza night instead of hovering over the oven.

The Best Rice Cooker for Control Freaks: Cuckoo Micom 6-Cup Rice Cooker
$120 If you’re particular about rice texture, the Cuckoo gives you complete control over the cooking process. Though it has pre-programmed settings for long-grain, brown, and glutinous rice, you can also customize how long to heat the rice, the water temperature setting, and how long the rice soaks before cooking. We found that the Cuckoo did an excellent job at making jasmine and basmati rice, but it’s so much more than a rice cooker. It also has settings for multicooking, steaming dumplings and veggies, and making porridge and baby food. It even has a cleaning function that sterilizes the interior.
